(Erie R.R.) Up at 7.15. Troubled by close air of cars. At Hornellsville breakfasted and changed cars at 9.45. Had seats in fine drawing room car. Wrote and read and chatted most of day. Finished Independent notes. Wrote Ward, Alice & J. B. T. Marsh. Revised sketch of S.S. and enclosed it for Advance. Dined at _____. Met Hon. Mr. Bennett of Buffalo. Pleasant talks with Quint, Brown of Newark, & Atwood about Christ and children. At New York at 9.45. At Astor House with Quint and Atwood. Supped with Quint. Retired at 11.
