(Hartford) Slept until 8.40. Breakfasted at Father’s at 9. Downtown with Johnny. Called at office of Post. Obtained memoradum slip case. At house looking over papers. Read letters. At 1.50pm Gurdon & Johnny went to New London to Pequot House. Downtown. Called at office of Post. Talked with Sperry about post-office. In evening went down to 7pm train to meet Gen. Hawley. Walked with him to his house. Thence to Bromley’s house to talk over post-office & senatorial matters. With him to Hawley’s office. Home to Father’s at 10.30. Retired at 10.50. Sent four S.S. letters and one other.
