(Hartford) Up at 7.45 after troubled night. Rainy morning. Wrote items for Independent. Downtown to Stedman Hall to meet Tenth C.V. veterans. Attended meeting there. Out to Courant office with Dr. Newton several times. At 3pm went to U.S. Hotel. Dined there with Tenth C.V. Alice with me. Miss Mather present. Made short speech. Out with Alice. She went home. Called at Dr. Hunt’s; also at Courant office. Saw statues of Sherman & Trumbull at State House. Went to bed at 8.30. Sent nine S.S. letters.
