Wednesday, September 27, 1871

(Hartford) Up at 6.40. Bright morning. Johnny obtained valise early. Packed. Off at 9.40 with Charley Camp for Springfield. Alice and Johnny with us. Wrote letters on cars. At Springfield at 10.55. Had baggage checked to Chicago. Walked down street.

Bought paper doll for Ally. Dined at 11.20 at Massasoit. Parted with Alice & Johnny, and off for Albany at 11.45. Wrote up items for Independent on way. Mailed them at Albany. There took saloon car. Talked with Charley about his danger from disease. Lunched at Syracuse. At Rochester about 10pm. Osborn House crowded. At 12 retired - or lay down on cots in hall. Charley slept well. (Sent four S.S. letters and one other.)
