(Fairfield, Ct.) Up at 5.45. Beautiful day. Rode to depot. Took 7.03 train for New Haven. Thence for home at 7.45. Wrote up diary on cars. Home at 9.40. Wrote Alice. Took nap before dinner. After dinner downtown. Called at offices of Post & Courant. Rode to Colt's meadows to see Gen. Hawley. Off at 7.10 for Boston. At Young's hotel at 11.30. Took bath. Retired at 12.30. Sent six S.S. letters and telegrams.
