(New York City) Up at 7.30. After breakfast at Everett House walked out with Johnny. Called at St James Hotel. Met army comrades. Was asked to reply in evening to toast to Army of James. Back to Everett House to make ready. (Called at 9 with Charley Camp & Johnny on Dr. A. Clark. Dr. gave gloomy account of him.) At 1pm attended reunion of Army of the James, at Apollo Hall. Opened meeting with prayer. Met Prof. Atherton. Again at Everett House. Johnny & Charley dined at Ashland House. Met them there. They off for home at 3. Left Everett House & went to St. James. Met Dr. Henshaw. In evening attended banquet of Army of the James. Spoke there. Retired at 1.
