(Hartford) Up at 7.30. Downtown. Called at office of Post, and at Prescott's. Had talk with Calvin Day as to Centre Church. Heard sharp clap of thunder. Lightning struck Father Hawley's house. In afternoon wrote article on Household Religion, intending it for Independent. Downtown in afternoon. Paid Seidler & May's bill, and Case, Lockwood & Brainard's. Called at Father's. Met James. Retired at 11.30. Sent nine S.S. letters and on other.
