(Hartford) Up at 8. Read letters and papers. Called at Father’s. Annie to go at noon. Downtown with Johnny. Called at Gov. Jewell’s. Had pleasant talk about post-office and senatorial matters. Off at 12.20 with Johnny & George Wattles for Boston. Alice walked with me to depot. She blue. Wrote letter to Fred on cars. Dined at Massasoit. Called at Holland’s office. Off at 2.05 for Boston. Wrote letters. At Boston at 5.50. Called at Shute’s. Stopped at Young’s Hotel. Spent evening at Shute’s writing letters while Johnny & George picked out books to sell in Connt. Took bath at Young’s before retiring. Retired at 11.45. Sent ten S.S. letters and one other.
