Sunday, July 18, 1869

(Brattleboro, Vt.) Up at 7.30. Bright day but not hot. Read & wrote in room. Out to Baptist Ch. in forenoon. Heard Rev. Dr. Mr. Matteson on Valley of Decision. Attended S.S. at noon. Sat in Bible class. Addressed school on Bible study. After dinner preached in Bap. Ch. on Seed Sowing from Gal. VI.7 Home with Mr. Estey. Mr. Matteson there also. Talked about children's prayer-meetings. After supper, out to Mrs. Wells'. Met Mrs. Colt & Miss Root. Back to Mr. Estey's. Thence to hotel. Wrote on letter to Fred. Commenced letter to Gray. Retired with headache at 9pm.
Monday, July 19, 1869

(Brattleboro, Vt.) Up at 7 with head-ache. After breakfast called at Mr. Estey's factory, went about that. Off from Brattleboro at 8.50 for Spring'd. Met young Baker of East Hampton on cars. Wrote awhile. Called at Holland's at noon. Met Kirkham. Home at 1. Letter from Fred. Cheery words about Thacher. Downtown after dinner. Baby not well. Wrote Gray & Fred in completion of letters to them. Dr. Hunt called. Downtown a second time with him. Met Mr. Hawley, also Dr. Bushnell. Walked with him. Home to tea. Raspberries from Gen. Goodyear. Out to Camp's in evening. Sent four letters & one S.S. letter. Retired at 11.30 after work on papers & call at Father's.
Tuesday, July 20, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 8.15, after troubled night with dear Harry. Dr. Hunt called morning & evening. Downtown to market & to Watkinson's library. Also to McNary's & to Dr. Johnson's. Sent sixteen S.S. letters and three others. Wrote at home all the afternoon. Out with Alice to make calls in evening. Called at young Thos. Steele's & Mr. Nott's. Showery evening. Wrote a little on return home. Retired at 11.
Wednesday, July 21, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 8. Rainy morning. Obtained books & papers for R. Erwin. Read for that purpose. Examined & sorted papers. Sent off seven S.S. letters & two others. Thos. Gallaudet came at noon. Attended funeral of Mr. Clerc at 4pm. Mrs. Camp called. No letter from Fred Camp, anxious in view of that. Downtown to post-office & Prescott's. Paid bill to latter. Sent books to Erwin. Worked over papers. Cut out pieces for scrap-books. Retired at 11. Anxious troubled night with Baby.
Thursday, July 22, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 9.50. Well night worn out. Wrote on letter to Fred. Downtown after dinner. Found delightful letter from him, missent to Htfd, NY. Went to Dr. Bushnell's, thence to Mrs. Fessenden's, again to Dr. B's to ask him to baptize Baby. Home & finished letter to Fred. Downtown with Fletcher to Talcott's, Ruggle's, & Geer & Pond's. Bought scrap-books. Out to Camps in evening to ask them to Christening. Later wrote on letter to S.S. Times & to Fred. Retired at 11. Sent one S.S. letter & two others.
Friday, July 23, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 7.20. Re-arranged furniture in parlor. Rev. Dr. Bushnell came and baptized little Harry. Mr. & Mrs. Camp, Nelly & Kitty, Mother, Sarah & Annie present. Baby seemed better. Finished letter to S.S. Times. Wrote others. At 12.50 off for New Haven. Called there at Hooker's. Called at Jarman's, Miss Bacon's & post-office. Agreed to preach at 3d. Ch. for Sunday. Home at 7.15. Found baby worse. Hurried to Dr. Hunt's. He came to house. Watched & worked over Baby anxiously an hour or two. Dr. left at 10. Still watched Baby. Sent seven S.S. letters & one other. Sat up until 1.30. Lay down with clothes on. Up off & on all night. Alice up all night. Baby seemed better from 3am.

Saturday, July 24, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 8. Baby seemed brighter. Downtown after breakfast looking up minister for New Haven. Called at Ch. Oak Bk., McNary's, & Post-office. Met Dr. Thompson. Arranged with him to preach at New Haven Home. Tired out, after visit at market, telegraph office etc. Gurdon went to post-office for me. Fletcher in Windham Co. Wrote letters. Baby again very low in afternoon & evening. Dr. Hunt came twice after 5 o'clock. Went for Dr. Beresford in consultation. From his house to McNary's. Found him & came home with him. Cornelia Camp passed night with us. Did not undress. Napped it by turns after 1.30.

(Hartford) Up at 7.50. Bright day. All grateful to God for the spared life of Harry. Dr. Bushnell & others called. Nellie Camp with us until 2.30pm. Dr. Hunt called. Sent Sophy to druggists. Looked over papers & magazines. Commenced service with children before dinner. Interrupted. After dinner read again & commenced letter to Fred. Twichell called. Kept housed all day & evening except to call at Father's. Still anxious hour by hour for Baby. Dr. H. called three times. Kitty Camp came in evening for the night. Took bath before dinner. Again did not undress for night. Napped it from 10pm.
Monday, July 26, 1869

Up at 7.50. Rainy day. After breakfast downtown to Fox & Dow's, Stevens, Post-office & etc. Baby still in a critical state. Sent off seven S.S. letters and two others. Downtown before tea. Bought berries. Paid Pease's bill. Dr. Hunt called at 5pm. Called at Father's. At 9.25 Dr. Hunt called again. Harry showing signs of improvement for first time. God be praised! Worked on article on Heart Power. Wrote up diary. Napped it off & on, without undressing through the night. Kitty Camp remained with us.
Tuesday, July 27, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 8. Baby still quite low. Maj. Hemingway called with Mark Twain's new book. Wrote on Heart Power article & finished it. Sent off eight S.S. letters & two others. Kept housed all day. Read Twain's book in evening. Called at Father's. Letter from Fred at noon. Nellie Camp came towards evening to pass the night. Baby in critical state. Again napped it without undressing from 1 am.
Wednesday, July 28, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 7.30. Hot day. Baby evidently better. Wrote Learneds. Downtown to semi-annual meeting of G.A.R. Encampment for State. Called at Am. Publishing Co. Home for dinner. Down again to G.A.R. meeting. Spoke there. Bought ice cream etc. Kitty came towards evening. Baby gaining. Sent letter to Fred. Lay down, without undressing, at 12.

(Hartford) Up at 8.20. Cloudy but close morning. Baby seemingly better. Maj. Hemingway called. Wrote up diary. Wrote six S.S. letters and five others. Wrote article for Vincent's Journal on How to tell Bible Stories. Called at Father's. Baby seemed quite weak in afternoon. Commenced letter for Cong'l & Rec. in How to Surround A S.S. in evening. Worked on it late. Called at Father's. Commenced letter to Fred. Nelly Camp with us. Lay down from 1am.
Friday, July 30, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 7.40. Wrote again on article for Cong'l Recorder. Dr. Newton & Lt. Wright called as to 10th. C.V. re-union. Asylum barn caught fire. Went out to that just before noon. Down to U.S. Hotel with Newton & Wright to dinner. Met Otis & Parsons there. Talked over re-union of regiment. Home at 3.50. Baby decidedly better. Wrote on letters to Ned & Allen in evening. Kitty Camp with us. Lay down from midnight. Sent letter to Fred & one to Tyler.
Saturday, July 31, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 9.10. Cool, delightful day. Rec'd letter from Wm. Orton that stirred me up. Wrote answer to it. Sent off four S.S. letters and two others. Miss Mather of St. Augustine, & Mrs. Eldridge called, before dinner. Pleasant talk with them. Downtown after dinner. Called at T. Steele's, Courant office, Brown & Gross', & post office. Bought watermelon. Letter from Fred in forenoon. Hung pictures in even'g. Downtown again after tea. Bought ice cream. Sorted scraps for scrap books. Worked on pictures until nearly midnight. Lay down from 11.30.

(Hartford) Up at 8.30. Nelly Camp with us until nearly noon. Baby gaining. Read papers & books. Commenced letter to Fred. At noon Miss Mather came to dinner. Went with her to S.S. at Asylum Hill Church in afternoon. Taught colored boys lesson on Samson. Home with Miss Mather. Talked & read to her. In evening walked home with her. Wrote again to Fred. Nelly Camp again with us. Lay down from 11.
