Thursday, August 5, 1869

(Hartford) Fletcher off for Stafford Springs. Up at 8. Dr. Thompson called. Down to express office & to depot. Sent Walter's pole. Commenced revision of sermon on Seed Sowing. Worked at it most of day. Baby evidently better. Downtown to bank & post-office after early dinner. Sent two S.S. letters and three others. Charley Camp came in evening to talk over his plans. Worked again on sermon. No one with us for the night. Undressed for first time at night in nearly two weeks. Fletcher returned in evening. Worked on May's doll palace. Retired at 12.
Friday, August 6, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 8.10. Cool morning. Looked over items for Tyler for the Independent. Worked on revision of sermon nearly all day and evening. Capt. Chamberlain called for me to go to Asylum with his friends. Went out with them. Asylum closed. Downtown before tea. Baby much better. Called at Father's in evening. Wrote briefly to Fred. Took bath. Retired at 12.15. Sent six S.S. letters.
Saturday, August 7, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 8.15. Cool morning. Downtown. Bought new valise. Met Rev. H. Powers. Entered sums in Savings Bank for children. Home at 12. Off at 12. 18 for depot. Train late. Met Rev. C. Nichols at depot; also Capt. Coit. Off for Boston at 12.55. Had lunch at depot. Wrote on sermon until reaching Boston. Called at Shute's. Stopped at Parker House. Called at Thacher's. He away. Wrote on sermon until 11.30. Had telegrams from Holland, having written him at Springfield. Commenced letter to Fred. Retired at 12.15am. Sent five S.S. letters and two others.
Sunday, August 8, 1869

(Boston) Up at 7.30. Pleasant, cool day. Revised my sermon at and after breakfast. Met Pres't A. D. Smith, Pres't of Darmouth College. Shute called for me at 10. Out to Clarendon St. Baptist Church with him. Preached in forenoon from Gal. 6:7. Misses Mather & Perit there. At noon went to dinner with Mr. Butler. Sat with family awhile. Then in room by myself. Wrote on letter to Fred. Out to S.S. at noon. In aft'n preached from Mk 1:37. Henry P. Haven there. Also Capt. Brooks & Col. Dyer. Went out to Roxbury to Mr. W. H. Hill's with Capt. Ropes to see Misses Mather & Perit. Met young Ropes just from Europe. In to Boston at 9pm. Met Mr. Haven at Fremont House & talked until midnight. Wrote awhile. Retired at 1am.
