(Hartford) Up at 8. Ned came from Springfield by 8.10 train. Finished copying of Gray's letter. Johnny returned at 11.15. Called at Father's. Off at 2 with Gurdon to Springfield. Called at Holland's, at Court home, and at Spring'd Repub'n office. Heard Judge Hoar in case of Dr. Breck vs. Conn. River R.R.. Off with Gurdon to W. Springfield. Visited Col. Thompson's place to see about trout. Back to Spring'd. Supped at Massasoit. Received letter for "Henry C. Trumbull" not for me. Home by evening express train. Met G. C. Van Zandt on cars to Spring'd. Ned called in evening. Walked downtown with him. Retired at 10.30. Sent three S.S. letters and one other.
