Monday, July 31, 1871

(Philadelphia) Up at 7.10. Cool cloudy morning. Called after breakfast at Union rooms. Thence with Kingsbury to Mr. Whilldin's office. Back to Union rooms to talk over missionary correspondence with Rice. Wrote to Editor of Nat'l S.S. Teacher sending Children's Church article. Sent letter to Fred. Again at Kingsbury's, to lunch. Down to Whilldin's. Talked freely with him. Called at S.S. Times office. Wrote Pres't Chapin. Bought gloves for Alice & sent them with letter. Ordered & paid for suit of clothes at Wanamaker's. Dined at Kingsbury's. Off for N.Y. at 6.45. At St. James Hotel at 10.45. Retired after lunch at 11.30.
