(Mich. South, R.R.) Up at 6.30. Breakfasted about 7 at La Porte, Ind. Wrote up diary. Beautiful clear, cool morning. At Chicago about 9.30. Called at Post's office. Met Kingsbury & Ensign. Wrote letter to Alice, and then telegraphed Alice and Marsh. Dined at Clifton House. Stopped there. Called at Advance office, at office of Nat'l Teacher, at Moody's, at trunk maker's, etc. In evening met Senator Trumbull and passed two hours with him. Hunted vainly for Mr. Bradley's. Retired at 10.
