(Rochester, NY) Up at 7.30. Cloudy, chilly morning. At breakfast at Osborn House. Off at 10am for Buffalo and Chicago. Took sleeping car at Buffalo. Wrote Alice and mailed letter at Buffalo. Wrote up diary. Dined at Dunkirk. Wrote letters in afternoon to Gen. Hawley, Col. C. M. Coit, Maj. Bell & Maj. Mason. Discussed sophistry with Charley. Supped at Cleveland. Stormy afternoon and evening. Retired at 9.45. Cleared off cold during night.
