(Fairfield) Up at 7.30. Rainy morning. Made ready for a start. Mr. Squire planned to take Johnny & me to depot. No wagon to be had. Started on foot down the track in hot haste with Johnny. Barely reached the 9.06 train. Johnny went home via Bridgeport. Wrote Alice on cars. Cleaved off. In New York at 11.40. Set bag at Ashland House. Called at Vincent’s & Taylor’s. Met W. A. Niles. Lunched with him & Tyler. Called at Tyler’s office. He away. Talked with Wisewell. Met Comm on Uniform Lessons. Over to Brooklyn to Eggleston’s to tea, with Lyon. Talked over S.S. Teacher matter with Lyon. Back to New York & St. James Hotel at 10.40. Met P. E. Holmes & family. Chatted with them until 11.40. Retired at 12.
