Thursday, September 7, 1871

(Brattleboro, Vt.) Up at 7.40 with headache. Took breakfast with Mrs. Rice only. Down to depot. Met Dr. Frost & Mr. Rice. Off with latter at 8.40 for Grant's Corner. Thence to Springfield. Wrote up diary. At Springfield at 11.40. Called at Holland's & Masssoit. Bought Conn. River R.R. mileage ticket. Off at 12.15 for home. At home at 1. Gal. & Family there. Annie Slosson looked badly. Independent came at noon. Downtown after dinner. Called at Gen. Hawley's. Talked over Independent articles. Ordered furnace of Kelsey. Johnny Wattles came at 6.20. Worked at house in evening. Retired at 10.30. (Down to railroad row looking for Patrick.) Sent six S.S. letters and two others.
