(New York City) Up at 8. Met Gen. Whitaker and talked with him about post-office troubles. Called at Tyler’s office. Met W. P. Paxson. Talked with Tyler about his troubles with the Union. Called at S.S. Workman office. Bought bathing dress for Alice. Dined at Ashland House. Off for home at 3pm. Threw bathing dress bundle to Alice at Fairfield. Met Rev. J. M. Buckley on cars; also Gen. Whitaker. At home at 7pm. Down to Courant office in evening. Had talk with Hawley & Hubbard about post-office. They proposed to me to take it. Promptly declined. Retired at house with Johnny at 10.45.
