(Springfield, Mass.) Up at 7. Read in Republican sketch of meeting at City Hall, of night before, when Gen. Butler traduced Gen. Hawley. Called after breakfast at Holland's. Wrote Fred Camp. With Holland called on Mr. Fuller, at Repub'n office and on F. Sanborn. Talked with latter about Gen. Butler. Called at Mr. Merriman's. Wrote Alice. Called on Mr. Sturtevant. Off for home by noon express train. At home at 1. Had talk with Johnny about his failure to meet me at Springfield. Downtown with him. Called on Courant office. At 5, Slosson & Annie came to Father's. James came at 6.20. Walked with Johnny to Gov. Jewell's & Camps. Retired at 10.15. Sent three S.S. letters & telegrams.
