Saturday, July 29, 1871

(Hartford) Up at 8. Johnny up early. Wrote article for Courant in reply to T. W. Russell on Sunday street cars. Wrote Alice & Fred. Downtown with Johnny and James whom I met at Father's. Called at Courant office, Russell's, Swift's, Prescott's, & telegraph and post-office. Telegraphed Rice & Kingsbury. Lunched at depot. Off at 1 for New York. Met Father Kelly, Rev. G. B. Willcox, Dr. Eggleston and then Dr. Peter Parker. Pleasant ride. Off at 6.30 for Phila. Wrote up diary. Wrote to Alice. Napped. At 10.10 at W. Phila. Kingsbury met me there. With him to his house at 1119 Chesnut St. Took supper there. Pleasant chat with family. Retired at 12.
