(Hartford) Up at 7.45. Rainy day. Wrote awhile. Over to Father's. Looked over his securities. Cut off coupons due to date. Down to bank. Deposited his trunk there. Back to house. Off with Alice for Boston at 12.20. Gov. Hawley on cars. Wrote on Independent copy on passage. At Parker's about 5. Left Alice there & called on Shute. He took tea with me. Attended M.O.L.L.N.S. meeting in evening. Gen. Aiken admitted. Retired at 11.20.
