(Hartford) Up at 8. Raining still. Wrote on letters all forenoon. Johnny's brother George came at 11.30. Called at Father's at noon. In afternoon wrote letters again. Gen. Hawley called at chatted two hours. Called again at Father's. Wrote letters once more. Storrs called in evening and arranged for loan for me. Annie Trumbull with Sophy. Prepared draft for circular appeal for Union. Made additional notes for Independent. Balanced cash. Had long talk with Alice about Johnny and other matters until 2.30.
