(Hartford) Up at 8. Still cold and blustering. Balanced cash. Sent off appeals in behalf of S.S. World and Dr. Hall's lessons. Wrote Fred Camp. Downtown in afternoon. Bought underclothing. Paid Woodford's bill. Sent five S.S. letters. Down to cars to take train for Middletown. Train delayed. Horace Greely at depot with Gen. Hawley and Mrs. Turnbull and Shew. Pleasant chat with them. Off at 8.20. At Middletown about 9.40. Rode to Copeland's with Dr. Shew.
