(New York) Up at 6.30. Breakfasted at Ashland House. Obtained bag at Prime's. Off at 8.30 for Phila. Wrote on Independent copy on cars. At Phila. at 12.30. At Union rooms confered with Kirkpatrick & Rice as to Dr. Hall's lessons, & the World for Jany. Lunched at Continental about 3. Again at Union rooms. Dined at Kingsbury's at 5. Off with him for W. Phila. Thences alone to New York, by 6.45. train. Wrote long letter to Fred on cars. At Astor House (having telegraphed for rooms) at 10.20. Took supper. Retired at 11.45, after going to post-office with Fred's letter.
