(Elmira, N.Y.) Up at 4.30. Off at 5.20 for Oberlin. Breakfasted at Hornellsville. Read morning papers. Wrote on sketch of Beecher's school for Advance. Dined at Dunkirk. Wrote Shute, Kirkpatrick, J. B. T. Marsh & Alice. Again wrote on sketch of school. Found family of boys going to Nebraska City. Supped at Cleveland. Vice-President Colfax on the train. At Oberlin about 8.45. Stopped at hotel. Attended session of National Council of Congl. Churches at 2nd Congl. Churc. Met Chas. Thomas, Pres. Thatcher, Rev. T. H. Marking, Pres. Strong, and other friends. Back to hotel and retired at 11.
