(Hartford) Up at 7.45. Household glad in Christmas giving and receiving. Fletcher called to borrow baby carriage. Johnny downtown early to arrange for his Christmas dinner. Down to City Hall with Sophy, about 2pm. Stopped to teacher's dinner after Christmas dinner of scholars. Presented cake to Mrs. Hawley. Home with Johnny. Prof. Atherton at house. After tea out to Gen. Hawley's with him to secure letter for Atherton to Pres. Grant, asking Atherton's appointment on Labor Commission. Wrote Gov. Buckingham. Retired at 11.
