(Hartford) Up at 8. After breakfast had telegrams from Shute. Off at 9.40 for Springfielf. Called at Mrs. Merriam's. Met Dickerson on street, also Geo. F. Arms. Looked in vain for Shute. Back to Hartford at noon. Very tired, rested awhile on lounge. Finished letter to Fred. Mailed in on cars at 1.50. Down to post-office, telegraph office, bank, etc. With Johnny, stopped at McClunie's. Wrote letters. Ned & Mr. Draper came to tea. They left at 7.30. Downtown with Johnny. Called at Gen. Hawley's. Retired at 10.30. Sent six S.S. letters, one telegram and one other letter.
