(New York) Up at 5.30. Rainy morning. Walked up to 30th St. depot to meet Fred. Train delayed. Back to hotel to breakfast. Up to depot again. Met Fred & Rob't Williams about 9.30. Down to hotel with Fred. Thence downtown while Fred went uptown. At Wallace's met Rev. L. W. Bacon. Rode with him to Rev. Mr. Longacre's on 7th Av. to attend gathering of Sigma Phi. Lunched there. Had part of discussion of question of Catechismal instruction. Over to Bible House at 4.20. Thence to Putnam's. Back to Bible House. Met Fred & his father. Down to hotel to dinner. Met Gen. Greeley. Jem Spencer called. Retired at 10.45.
