(Hartford) Up at 8.15. Bright morning. Downtown with Alice. Called at Bank, Priest's fur store, Courant office, post-office, etc. After early dinner, off at 1.50 for Norwich. Wrote on essay. Met Mr. Nott & Prof. Henry on cars. Reached Norwich at 5. Rev. Mr. Dana & Mr. Coit met me. Took tea with Mr. Dana. Out in evening to hear "Mark Twain" lecture on Sandwich Islands. Home with Mr. Coit. Worked on essay until midnight. Retired at 12.20. Sent four S.S. letters and three others.
