(Springfield, Mass.) Awoke at 6.40. Up at 6.45 and hurriedly dressed and up to Massasoit. Breakfasted there, and off for Boston at 7.15. Met Dea. Burt, Mr. Johnson, Pre't Clark and Mr. Soule on cars. Wrote Fred. Reached Boston about 11. Called at Winter St. and on Pratt. Stopped at Parker House. Shute busy all day at his S.S. Did not see him. Called at Congl office, at Pollard's & Goodman's. Called on Rev. Mr. Longworthy and at Noyes'. Met Rev. Mr. H. H. Murray. Had corns cut. Met Hawley at 6. Pleasant gathering. Said a few words of greeting. Chatted with Gen'l Osborn & Rockwell. Later, sat with Hawley until 12, after walk to Boston Journal office. Retired at 12.15.
