(Hartford) Up at 7.45. Cold day. Wrote on articles and Library books. Downtown. Tel'd Wallace & Marsh. Home and found J. B. Smith awaiting me. He dined with us. Off at 2pm for Spring'd. Met Prof. Niles. Had talk with him about non-conformists. Met Marsh at Holland's. Down to Mrs. Merriam's. Rode uptown with her. Home by evening express train, after supper at Massasoit. Down to post-office. Wrote up diary. Called at Father's. Read article on Libraries there. Retired at 11.30. Sent two S.S. letters, one S.S. telegram, one other letter, and one other telegram.
