(Hartford) Up at 8.50. Johnny up at 9. Late breakfast together. Long talk about the future of our relations. Wrote up diary. Joiner tinkered gate hinges. Johnny moved his personal baggage from Mrs. Bartlett's. Mr. Arms came in afternoon for a call. Called with him on Gurdon. Gurdon aided me in planning post-heads. Downtown with Johnny to Arch St. foundry. Ordered castings. Stopped at state-house to witness contest over vote for Governor. Home at 6.40. Called at Father's in evening. Wrote at home. Retired at 10.45. Sent nine S.S. letters and one other.
