(Boston) Up at 7. Called all hands. Breakfasted with Hawley, Bromley, & Nasly at 8. Off with two former for home at 9. Home at 1. Boys cleaning out cellar. Joiner came to put caps on posts. Downtown with Johnny. Called on Gov. Jewell. Had long talk with him on senatorial matters. Home at 6. Gen. Hawley called. Pleasant treat from family in honor of my birthday in evening. Retired at 10. Sent ten S.S. letters.
