Saturday, March 18, 1871

(Hartford) Up at 8.15. Down with Johnny after breakfast to post-office, market, etc. His mother came at 11.15. She stopped with us to dinner. Johnny and I went downtown after dinner to Jacob's ticket agency. Johnny went with his mother at 3.30pm to New Haven, on her way to Norwalk. Met E. Phelps. Paid him $250 - on a/p. Downtown. Called at Courant office, at G.S. Whitings, B. Bliss', etc. Wrote two S.S. letters and one other. Called at engraver's, as to Fred's cards. At 7 met Johnny at depot. Back to his room. Down to post-office. Had talk with him about Henry Camp. Waited at home for him until nearly 11. Earnest talk with him. Retired at 12. Called at Father's in evening.
