Tuesday, June 27, 1871

(Hartford) Up at 5.10. Off at 6 for Springfield. Wrote up diary. Breakfasted at Massasoit. Off at 8 for Mt. Tom and East Hampton. Met Dr. Buckingham. At Walter's room at 9. Called at hotel, at Dr. Henshaw's, at gymnasium, and at Mr. Sawyer's room. Called on Mrs. Camp and had talk with her at hotel. Dined there. Called on Dr. Seelye and Prof. Judson Smith. Attended meeting of Alumni and hear Prof. Smith's oration on Culture at 2.30pm. Then attended business meeting of alumni. Was selected president. Went with Prof. Smith to Mr. Williston's, to meet Trustees of seminary to talk with them about general catalogue. Took tea at Dr. Seelye's with Mrs. Camp and Walter. Off at 6.30 for Spring'd, via Mt. Tom. Thence to Boston, at Parker House at 11.30. Mr. Camp came to my room. Talked with him as to Lowell until 1am. Sent one telegram.
