(Hartford) Slept until 9. Nervous from weakness. Looked over papers and letters. Downtown with Johnny to post-office, painters, grocer's and market. Ordered horse from Boardman. Called at Courant office. Downtown again after dinner. Wrote to Col. Burnham asking him to appoint Johnny as his aide. Off at 4.50 for Springfield. Supped at Massasoit. Bought military hat. Called at Hayne's Hotel on Mr. Greene and at Mrs. Merriam's. Stopped at Dea. Hixon's. Rev. Dr. Read of Camden there. Also Julia Bull. Retired at 10.45. Sent three S.S. letters and two others.
