Saturday, April 8, 1871

(Boston) Up at 8. Bright and very hot day. Called at Shute's. Saw Noyes about issue of Knightly Soldier. Had corns cut at Perkins. called on Torrey to see about carpets. Out to Roxbury to see shoemaker. Dined at Parker's. Off at 3pm for home. Met F. M. Spaulding and wife on cars. Wrote on sermon as I rode. At Palmer, dear Fred met me to go with me home. At Spring'd heard of breakdown of freight train on track. Rode to Thompsonville and waited. Thence to W. 0000 and waited. Delay of three hours on road. Home at 10.30. Late supper. Finished sermon about 1.15. Retired at 1.45am. Telegraphed Alice, by Shute.
