Wednesday, May 5, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 6.45. Pleasant day. Quite ill. Unable to go to cars at 8. Downtown with Bern to secure his seat. Called at Allyn House. Decided to ride with Gen. Hawley. Inauguration Day. Returned to house. Put on chaplain's uniform and rode with Gen. Hawley as escort to the Governor (of other states and ex-Govs) carriage. Lunched at Gov. Jewell's room. Home to dinner at 4pm after hearing message at State House. Down to Allyn House in evening to dinner with staffs of Governors. Made out monthly report. Sent one S.S. letter. Home from dinner at Allyn House at 11. Retired at 11.50.
