(Salem, Mass.) Up at 7.50. After breakfast, Howard, of Co. G. 24th Mass, called on me. Walked about town with Mr. Osgood & Mr. Atwood. Saw curiosities in court-house and elsewhere. Off at 11am for Boston. Met Capt. Shreve on cars. Called at Shute's, Kinsley's, Pratt's, Noyes', etc. Wrote Fred. Made notes for changes of new book. Judge Smith called at Shute's. At 9pm off for home. Reached home at 1.40. News had come of Miner Fowler's death. Mother Gallaudet much troubled. Talked with her & Alice awhile. Retired at 2.45. In Boston had corns cut. Called at Rev. Mr. Foljambe's. Tel'd W. J. Holland.
