(Philadelphia) Up at 7.20. Wrote on diary. Met Shute at breakfast. After breakfast called at Union rooms. (Met Langton & Mr. & Mrs. Eldridge at table). At Mr. Wurts' office met Mr. Knowles & Mr. Kirkpatrick. Talked over Boston affairs, also about Gray's going to Georgia. Called at Dr. Allibone's room. Had pleasant chat with him. Met Peters of California. Called at Dr. Newton's. Met young Newton. Called at S. S. Times office. Dined at 3pm. Called again at Times office. Wrote Fred. Off for New York at 6pm. Sent one S. S. letter. Reached 5th Av Hotel at 10.30. Met Kinsley & others there. Gray went to his room after supper. I retired at 12.45.
