Wednesday, April 28, 1869

(New York) Awoke at 6.30 at dock. Added to Fred's letter. Mailed it. Breakfasted at Parkers. Met Rev. L. M. Dorman there. Off for Newark at 8.40. At First Baptist church there attended National S.S. Convention. Col. Shinkle of Ky temporary chairman. I temporary secretary. Large attendance. Geo. H. Stuart permanent chairman. I secretary. At noon Convention was photographed. Went hom to dinner with Mr. Dorrance. At convention in afternoon. Met Atherton. Went with him & others to Rev. Dr. Fish's to tea. In evening, spoke on Home and S.S. Instruction. H. Thane Miller & others spoke. Took ice cream etc. with Atherton. Back to Mr. Dorrance's at 11. Retired, with Atherton at 12. Talked until 1.
