(New York) Up at 6.30. After breakfast, off for home by 8am train. Met Twichell on cars. Home at noon. Found letters from Fred and Gray. Wrote Fred. Very rainy day. Downtown after dinner. Found Father ill, having had stroke of partial paralysis. Sad day. In evening took bath. Sent letter to Shute. Retired at 10.45. Called at Dr. Hunt's in afternoon. Alice Clancy sick. Took blue pill.
