(Newton Corner, Mass.) Up at 6.30. After breakfast off for Boston at 7.40. Called at Shute's, Pratt's, Kingsley's, etc. Dined with Shute. Off for home at 3pm. Wrote Haskell of Portland (Bought new inkstand. Called at Goodman's in Boston) Sent letter to Fred. took supper at Massasoit. Home at 7.15. Had talk with Boston rich man on cars about Grant etc. Supposed him to be Isaac Rick. Thought of going to New York at night, but too tired. Retired at 10.30.
