(Hartford) Up at 7.20. Worked on Essay most of day. Downtown to post-office and bank. Letter from Fred - a delightful one! Again downtown after dinner. Sent book to Walter. Sent telegrams to Ned & Fifth Av. Hotel. Wrote Fred. Off at 7.15 for New York. Met Mr. North & Mr. Russell (of Barrington) on cars. At 5th Av. Hotel at 11.50. Had supper. Very hot day & evening. Retired at 12.40. Sent eight S. S. letters & one other.
