Friday, May 14, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 8. Warm day. Worked on copy of address. Finished it. Wrote letters. Downtown. Called at post-office, on R. Swift, etc. Made purchases and gave orders for evening. Bought scrapbooks. Wrote letters after dinner, Fletcher went off at 3.30 for New Haven. Wrote Rev. E. L. Clark by him. Downtown again. Called at Gen. Hawley's. Met Capt. Chamberlain. Both of these with Twichell & "Mark Twain" came to tea. Chamberlain left at 7.10. The others passed the evening. Worked, after they left, on S.S. Concert Exercise for Proctor. Retired at 12.40. Baby not well. Sent four S.S. letters and three others.
