(Washington, D.C.) Up at 5. After cup of coffee, off for Alexandria steamer. Wrote Alice. Met Col. Stokes, Senator Spencer etc. Off for Lynchburg from Alex'n abt. 8am. Met Col. Stokes of Tenn., Senator Spencer of Ala. & others on cars. Wrote up diary & record of addresses. Dined at Charlottesville. Wrote Walker, Fred, G. Emory, J. B. Tyler, C. C. Bailey, & Gray. At 5 reach Lynchburg. Stopped at Norwell House. Washed & dressed. Walked to post-office. Met Will Foster. Call at his room. Met Judge Betts also Mr. Leparee & his son. Took supper with Foster, Betts & Leparee. Letters from Fred and the Camps. Talked with Mr. Leparee. Called at his son's. Back to Norwell House. Retired at 11.
