(Hartford) Up at 8. Alice's birthday. Children had gathered flowers for her in vases, at breakfast table. Sophy & May commenced school for autumn term at Madame Draper's. Started to go to East Hampton & Amherst. Returned to house & wrote plan of missionary appeal. In afternoon met Gov. Claflin & Council of Mass. at Asylum. Mrs. Gallaudet with them. Took supper there. Package & letter from Fred. Took bath. Retired at 10.45. Sent five S.S. letters & one telegram and one other letter.
