(Hartford) Up at 7.30. Bright day after the storm. Downtown after breakfast. Called at post-office, Dea. Steele's & crockery store. Wrote awhile. At 3.30, Fred left for New York. Sad parting after his delightful visit! At 4.45 went with Alice to Springfield. Took supper at Massasoit. Left Alice there. Called at Mrs. Merriam's. Had unsatisfactory talk with her. Back to hotel. Home by steamboat train. Retired at 11. Sent two S.S. letters & one other.
