(Hartford) Up at 5.20. Hurried with Alice to catch the train. Back to house. Looked over papers, and arranged books. At 2pm went to Springfield. Called at Holland's. Also at Mrs. Merriam's. Had sad talk with Mrs. Merriam & Miss May Bacon about Gray. Home by evening express train, after tea at Massasoit. Met the Misses Hamlin on cars. Downtown with Alice. Took ice-cream at Briggs'. Retired at 10.45. Sent two S.S. leters and two others.
