(Rutland, VT) Up about 7. Called Gen. Hawley. Bowled in alley after breakfast. Made ready for afternoon. Read, wrote and thought in room. Down to Camps in afternoon. Attended review of veterans on fair grounds. Gens. Devens, Hawley, Doubleday, Stannard, Robinson, Griffin, Springer, & Reazie made addresses. Addressed the soldiers and their friends - some 5000 in all. Back to Gen. Baxter's to dinner. Illumination and torchlight review in evening. Off for home by midnight train. Failure to connect at Bellow's Falls at 4.15. Went to Island House to wait until next train.
