Monday, September 1, 1873

(New London, CT) Up at 6.45. Cloudy, foggy morning. Off by 8am boat for Capt. Spicer's. There about 8.30. Wrote up diary. Read papers. Balanced cash. Over to Edgecombe House for 4.25 boat. Alice, children, & Johnny riding, I walking. Up to New London. Took ice-cream with Alice at Rogers. Off for Stonington by 5.40 train. Severe thunder storm. Met Mrs. Edmund Stanton and son on cars. At Wadawanuck at 6.30. In evening out with Johnny to see Billy Farming, Dr. Hyde and others. Took oysters at Ross'. Again at hotel, and out with Alice & Sophy. Took ice-cream at Burtchio, and walked to breakwater, and about town. Retired at 11.
